Ten: Sean McGinley on Moving Up the CORE Ranks

Agents, Shaun's Soapbox // Apr 10, 2014

Welcome to Ten, CORE founder and CEO Shaun Osher’s rapid-fire interview series with prominent CORE figures. Read on to find out how this week’s subject deals with being in the hot seat.

Sean McGinley is a part of CORE’s Jarrod Guy Randolph team, who has quickly made a name for himself as a determined and intelligent real estate professional. Coming from small town beginnings, Sean’s love of the big city and Manhattan real estate has helped him make the leap from CORE intern to a successful real estate agent in a short amount of time. Here are Sean’s answers to Ten questions:

Sean McGinley TEN1. What did you do before you found this career?
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be involved in real estate.  I remember being 12 years old, and I was riding bikes with my uncle through the most luxurious neighborhood on Kiawah Island, SC during a family beach trip. My uncle was a real estate broker, so he had a lot of insight on the beautiful homes in the area. On that day I decided that if I didn’t make it to the NBA, I wanted to be involved in high-end real estate!

2. What has been the highlight of your career?
Being brought on by Jarrod Guy Randolph was definitely the highlight of my career. I started at CORE as an intern and after a few months, I was recommended for an interview with Jarrod. I am incredibly fortunate to be a member of his team. Jarrod’s drive is contagious, and his extensive knowledge of the market has rubbed off on me so much that I already feel like a seasoned veteran.

3. What is your greatest daily challenge?
My greatest daily challenge is finding enough time in the day to complete everything. However, the recent addition of veteran agent Chris Dominiak to our team has been incredibly helpful.

4. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I have a lot of goals for my next 10 years. I hope to follow in Jarrod’s footsteps and be named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for real estate. I am very interested in new development, particularly boutique conversions like Seven Harrison and 46 Lispenard, so in 10 years I see myself working on my first new development project.

5. Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in the incredible work ethic of this city. It sounds cheesy, but until you live here there is no way to understand the energy that you get from the people and your surroundings.

6. Name one thing we might not know about you.
I was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in the same hospital as Jarrod Guy Randolph.

7. What’s your favorite movie or book?
My favorite book at the moment is Dada: The Revolt of Art by Marc Dachy. I feel like people tend to skip over the Dada art movement because it preceded Surrealism, but this book gives an intriguing look at the life and works of people like Tristan Tzara and Marcel Janco.  I am also looking forward to reading the tell-all chronicle House of Outrageous Fortune: Fifteen Central Park West, The World’s Most Powerful Address by Michael Gross.

8. What do you do in your free time?
I am somewhat obsessed with coffee, so I like to pick a new café every weekend, try their coffee and explore the neighborhood. It’s great because it helps me stay current with the ever-changing New York landscape while enjoying great coffee. Besides that, I love working out and watching basketball.

9. What’s your favorite restaurant?
This is a tough question, because one of my favorite things to do is try new restaurants all over the city. However, if I have to choose one, it’s PUBLIC in NoLita. My favorite dishes are the kangaroo and the duck.

10. Tell me something about your home.
I have a huge print of Jasper Johns’ Map. It is definitely the focal point of my living room.
