This five-story West Village townhouse is for rent… for $35,000 a month

This five-story townhouse is listed for rent by CORE for $35,000 a month, an eye-popping price the owner might argue is justified by its grandeur and its location on a charming, tree-lined block of the West Village. Within, you’ll find five bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus high ceilings, intricate crown moldings, and marble fireplaces.

There’s also a roof deck and a back garden, but it’s not clear from the listing that the tenants will get to go into the latter.

On the first floor, an entry foyer with a rounded doorway leads into the long living area, where the white walls, fireplace, and moldings contrast strikingly with the dark wood flooring. Tall windows help to illuminate the space. Beyond is a spacious dining area that opens onto a sun room. The adjacent kitchen was recently renovated and looks roomy enough to please home cooks.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, an office space, a laundry room with washer and dryer, and a shared bathroom. Both bedrooms look about equal in size, and come with marble fireplaces and walk-in closets. The bathroom features subway tile and a soaking tub.

On the third floor are another two bedrooms, an office, and a full bathroom.

On the top floor, there’s a whole studio apartment, which the listing notes could be used as a family room. It comes with a skylight and yet another fireplace, and offers access to the roof.

The floor plan reveals another apartment on the garden level. It’s not clear if there’s access to that, although the listing does open by saying this is “a rare opportunity to live in five full floors” of the house. In any case, the place’s cheerful red brick exterior has definite curb appeal.

Whether most or all of that building is worth $35,000 a month to live in, well, we’ll leave that to someone who has that kind of scratch.
