A Designer Duplex in a Sought-After NYC Building Asks $5.6M

If only the walls of this Sutton Place duplex could speak. Clay Felker bought the apartment in the late 1950s before going on to start New York magazine in 1968. While living in the apartment, his wife, Gail Sheehy, wrote her best-selling novel titled Passages. The couple sold the apartment to the current owners in 1994, but the story doesn’t end there. Over 20 years ago, the late Irish interior designer David Collins was the architect and interior designer behind the residence and it has since been updated by David Collins Studio.

It comes as no surprise that the apartment is equal parts beautiful and inviting. After all, Collins started his studio in London and it has been responsible for designing some of the world’s leading hotels, including a Mandarin Oriental and a Nobu Hotel. Unlike other Manhattan dwellings, this two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom apartment has plenty of entertaining space. A sweeping 18-foot ceiling in the living room with large windows serve as the heart of the home. A fireplace is flanked by tall bookcases, which is no plot-twist since Felker and Sheehy resided here. An additional room on the second floor may act as a private gym or home office.

This apartment full of creative inspiration is listed for $5.6 million with Maria Torresy and Julianna Simmons of Brown Harris Stevens and Julie Ann Johnson of CORE.
