Ten: Maggie Kent on Maintaining Work-Life Balance

Welcome to Ten, CORE founder and CEO Shaun Osher‘s rapid-fire interview series with prominent CORE figures. Read on to find out how this week’s subject deals with being on the hot seat.

Highly recognizable to both Selling New York fans and the New York City real estate community, Maggie Kent is excellent at her craft. A seasoned real estate expert, Maggie prides herself on being intimately involved with every transaction from start to finish, and beyond. Maggie does acknowledge that her success did not come without a few bumps along the road. Here are Maggie’s answers to Ten questions:

1) What did you do before you found this career?Maggie

I moved to New York with one suitcase and, like so many people who come here from somewhere else, I have worn many hats throughout the course of my career. I’ve produced arts and events, dabbled in financial planning and theater…I even sold stain remover for a summer!

2) What has been the highlight of your career?

Selling stain remover! No, a  highlight was the surprise of debuting in HGTV’s hit show, Selling New York.

3) What is your greatest daily challenge?

Time management. I think most New Yorkers can relate to this no matter what profession they are in. Balancing your family life and work responsibilities is key, so that you can always give your best to everyone, including to yourself.

4) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I will be in real estate and development and will have reached new heights for my personal goals concerning my own investments, business ventures, and philanthropic endeavors.

5) Where do you find inspiration?

Usually I find it in people because everyone has a story. I find it in history, cities, art, architecture and design, music, comedy and nature. I think that covers almost everything!

6) Name one thing we might not know about you.

Well the cat’s out of the bag about the stain remover. Otherwise, I am a pretty good singer and can play a mean game of charades.

7) What’s your favorite movie or book?

When I was a kid it was Charlotte’s Web. Now, I like biographies, twisted modern fiction, and classic drama, so its hard to name one title. Same for movies. I’ve seen Goodfellas, The Wizard of Oz, and Kubrick films multiple times.

8) What do you do in your free time?

I drink champagne and spend time with those I love and laugh with. As much as possible. Yes, I mean the champagne. I travel, produce theater, read, learn, do yoga, bike, watch cheap tv and great documentaries.

9) What’s your favorite restaurant?

The Fish Market in Reykjavik, Iceland.

10) Tell me something about your home.

In my living room I have gunmetal wallpaper that has butterflies on it that I imported from London.
