Photo of the Week: Art Deco Details

Uncategorized // Oct 12, 2012

Midtown is recognized as one of Manhattan’s most constantly evolving neighborhoods, but even in the sea of new construction there are rare glimpses into the area’s history.  This photo of the Chanin Building captures the ornate, art deco style typical of late 1920s construction.  The façade is buff brick and terra cotta and incorporates the use of colored glass, stone and metal.  Nestled amongst the area’s other icons – the Chrysler Building and Grand Central– this gem is worth looking out for next time you are near East 42nd and Lexington Avenue.
