I·con [Ahy-kon]-noun

great escape steve mcqueen

1. a picture, image, or other representation.
2. a term that is starting to be completely overused!

I have to confess.
I have misused this term when marketing a property.
Or more accurately, the intent was honest, but the result differed.
What started as a positive – turned into a negative.
And there was nothing I could do about it.

The determination of an icon is usually opinion – not fact.
The Empire State Building.
Now THAT’S an icon (in my opinion).
But, iconic buildings (and things) are not always pretty.
Just a “representation” of something.
Some icons are downright ugly (in my opinion).

This year, the AIA determined that the New York Times building gets the award for New York’s ugliest building.
An icon is born! (I don’t agree).

An icon is evocative……
And they are few and far between
