Eyes on Design: Rock the Runway

Eyes on Design

Choosing an apartment is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your life. ‘Eyes On Design’ hopes to help you realize the full potential of your space after all the paperwork is signed, sealed and delivered—to ultimately turn your purchase into a home.

With 2016 in full force, it’s the perfect time to refresh your look — at home that is. And with that clever groundhog letting us know that spring is right around the corner, why not ditch those dark winter duds and spring ahead with fabulous finds inspired from the runway.

This season’s most inspiring looks not only commanded the stage, but are now unsurprisingly commanding our homes. The looks we love included suede, gingham and the dynamic black and white duo. Because it’s easy for these signature styles to feel dated, throw caution to the wind and apply a modern spin for the ultimate chic and sophisticated space. After all, they’re classics for a reason.

The days of suede are back and better than ever. The seventies-centric fabric is making a big splash this spring — think lush couches, chic dining chairs or cozy throw pillows. But before you whip out every funky collectors item from yesteryear to go with it, take note that the deliciously smooth fabric is making waves in muted neutrals like burnt sienna, camel and buff. Monochromatic moments give this look a sophisticated vibe. Consider mixing in pieces in the season’s hottest color: dusty rose. Take the trend one step further by adding white trim or nickel and chrome fixtures.

Going for a more dramatic look? Make use of the powerhouse combination that is black and white. Go all white with a punch of black for a more dramatic statement or create a space of zen with equal parts of black and white. Think stark white cabinetry and black stainless steel appliances. For a light and airy feel, use white woods and marbles throughout the space. You can never really go wrong with all white bedding. Keep things interesting with black and white supersized print wallpaper. Florals or stripes add a lot of impact without overpowering. Don’t be afraid to mix and match prints throughout the space.

Add a retro pop with gingham. Often associated with farmer’s markets, beach days and picnic baskets, this print is optimal when accommodating both feminine and masculine design aesthetics. Perfect as an accent chair or love-seat, this print works best when tailored with metallic nailheads. Check please!

And just like that, everything old is new again.
