Eyes On Design3

Choosing an apartment is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your life. ‘Eyes On Design’ helps you realize the full potential of your space after all the paperwork is signed, sealed and delivered—to ultimately turn your purchase into a home.

As summer always-too-quickly transitions to autumn, it brings with it new color palettes, new designs and new fabric textures—and that doesn’t stop at our wardrobes. As your closet shifts from whites, lights and brights to moody hues and chunky knits, your home decor should do the same. Knowing where to start is sometimes the hardest part, so we’ve broken down your design do-over into three key components: color, texture and style (but we’ll get to texture and style later).

Autumn is the perfect time of year to spice up your color palette—literally and figuratively. With reds, sage and herb greens, cognacs and chocolate browns, it’s important to not fall victim to using only the most standard colors offered. While these hues make for a rich base to work off of, don’t be afraid to experiment with the hottest color of the season: cobalt blue.

While this striking shade of blue can seem abrasive at first glance for some, it’s important to know when and how to apply this to your newly decorated rooms. It’s near impossible these days to find a design palette that doesn’t already incorporate some tone of blue whether it be a deep navy or a pale powder grey-blue. Use this to your advantage by adding this lively hue to your living space by way of multi-color patterned throw pillow or blankets featuring both new and older colors. This allows for other solid cobalt pieces to stand alone and tie in effortlessly (think picture frames or statement lamps).

Entertaining for the holidays? Spruce up your tablescape with cobalt dishes or centerpieces (think vases and votives). Maybe even splurge for reupholstered seats for a wow factor at the table. Wanting to commit fully to the trend? Consider painting a statement wall or an entire room in this daring shade. Using a super saturated cobalt can feel both mature and whimsical at the same time. Add pops of canary yellow for a youthful burst of energy or hone in on the feeling of fall by weighing down a room with chocolate browns, Marsala reds and metallic accents.
