24 Hours with Doron Zwickel

24 Hours With // Dec 01, 2015

Doron

’24 Hours With’ takes a look at a day in the life of CORE’s agents. Doron Zwickel talks about new developments and the inspiration of New York City’s landmarks.

My mornings start when my fiancée’s alarm goes off. Kim is a New York City public school teacher so we wake up pretty early. But since I’m a news junky, I don’t really get out of bed before reading the top stories in both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal apps, while blasting CNN in the background.

My first destination of the day is Equinox Flatiron. I recently stepped it up a few notches at the gym so I can fit nicely into my wedding tux. The walk back home is very inspirational with views of Madison Square Park, the Empire State Building and many other beautiful landmarks as the backdrop. It is also a great reminder that I’m very lucky to live and work in this incredible city and an amazing way to start the day.

I’m not really a breakfast person but I am quite the coffee connoisseur, so I usually make a stop at Brooklyn Roasting Company on West 23rd Street, where the baristas come all the way from Bushwick and their cappuccinos are just perfect. This is also when I begin to tackle my inbox.

My day at work feels like it goes really fast. It consists of new development meetings and frequent visits to the actual sales offices of the projects I’m working on. Each one of them requires different attention. One is at its tail end, another is about to launch and a third is only in its early planning phase. While most of my clients are developers of large buildings, I make sure to consistently serve sellers and buyers of individual properties. It helps me keep a finger on the pulse of the market, therefore I try to tour properties with buyers at least once a day. I often attempt to kill two birds with one stone and take them to a hot new condo project that recently launched so I can view firsthand what the competition is doing.

Any successful broker will tell you that your work is far from done at 6pm and that your activities after normal business hours are just as important as the ones during — if not more. Last night I went to a fundraiser for an important nonprofit organization and tonight I have a client dinner at a chic Asian fusion Midtown spot. In this business there is a strong connection between your friends and clients and being social is a huge part of my success. Luckily, my lovely fiancée is very understanding and is extremely supportive even when I get home pretty late.
