About Sid
A life-long New Yorker and fifteen-year veteran of the real estate brokerage industry, Sid Whelan has built a reputation among his clients, customers and colleagues for his integrity, knowledge, care and persistence. They know that if Sid is on board, the job will be done the right way. Amassing broad experience, he has engaged in many aspects of the New York City residential real estate world, bringing an expansive base of knowledge and experience to his clients. He is an expert in townhouses; investment properties; new construction; co-op and condo resales; and rentals.
In addition to his long list of successful transactions for individual buyers and sellers, Sid has extensive experience representing sponsors, both as holder of unsold shares and as developer of new construction. In the development context he has worked in consultation from the pro forma stage through market analysis; demographic identification; product design & pricing and sales & marketing.
A former owner of two co-op apartments, Sid served three years on his former co-op board, including one year as its president. This knowledge of the inner workings of a co-op board has given him an unbroken record of successful co-op applications during his brokerage career. Says Whelan: “A co-op board application is not just about filling in the blanks and supplying the requested documentation. It’s about telling a story that answers all the readers’ questions.”
Currently a resident of Park Slope, Sid was born and raised on New York City’s Upper East Side and over the years has lived in Lower Manhattan, Morningside Heights, Harlem and Inwood. His wife is the Head of School at Brooklyn’s Berkeley Carroll School and the former Director of the High School at Dalton. She is a member of the board of Trustees at Oberlin College and the Board of Visitors of Duke University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
A musician since a very young age, Sid has been known to play a mean blues guitar when the opportunity arises and has studied songwriting with Grammy winners Steve Earle and Chely Wright. Before entering the real estate business in 2004, he worked in the music business for over a decade and remains close to many musicians of note, often helping them with their real estate transactions.
