There’s nothing quite like starting the week in New York City, especially when you can wake up to the downtown charm at 57 Thompson Street, 3A. West Soho is dream-like and quaint on a Monday morning and 57 Thompson Street echoes that with eastern light streaming through the over-sized arched window and exposed brick throughout. Should the office be your destination this morning, 57 Thompson Street, 3A is a short walk to every subway line. But why leave? Everything you need to have the perfect New York City day is right here.
The living room is quiet and peaceful – high ceilings and hardwood floors evoke quintessential pre-war charm. Should you wish to work from home it’s easy to do so in an apartment like this. Amid so many small cafes and coffee shops in West Soho, don’t forget to grab coffee before starting the day. Head over to About Coffee on Sullivan Street for a latte and pastry – no tourists to dodge here on the quieter West Soho blocks. There’s also Ground Support Cafe just around the corner, where you can bring your laptop and grab a table for a change of pace while working from home. The delicious grilled cheese with tomato and basil is the perfect accompaniment to the afternoon.
Boutiques are plentiful in West Soho so it’s easy to get distracted while strolling the neighborhood’s blocks. Just a couple blocks west, you’ll find the most established of fashion houses, such as Céline and Longchamp. Fancy a French sweet over a French frock? Ladurée on West Broadway is the perfect late afternoon pick-me-up. “What to do tonight?” is an easily answered question in the always vibrant Soho neighborhood. For those who prefer a casual dinner on a weekday evening, why not make a reservation at the intimate subterranean French bistro Cocotte? The more ambitious might grab a cocktail at the lounge of the neighborhood favorite Sixty Soho. With beautifully mild fall days a thing of the past, it’s the perfect time to bundle up and enjoy the toasty indoor activities that New York City prides itself on. Let’s ‘Warm up with New York’ and rediscover some indoor hidden gems to get us through the winter months ahead.
CORE’s Sebastian Oppenheim shares his cozy foodie find to beat the winter chill.
As a native New Yorker, I know firsthand the rich offerings of the city, from museums of the Upper East Side to the galleries of Chelsea and SoHo, from attending on and off Broadway shows to Koreatown karaoke bars. But amidst the general hustle and bustle of the city, one of the things I enjoy most, especially during the cold winter months, is to take advantage of the thousands of restaurants the city has to offer and connect with friends. There is something to be said about dining leisurely with family and friends. It is a tradition born at home for me and a ritual that I continued throughout my college years in South Carolina (a great foodie town) and now back in New York City.
Mediterranean food is hands down in the top three types of cuisine I love. Finding the perfect spot has only taken me about 23 years of my life. Bustan, nestled in the center of the block on Amsterdam Avenue between 84 and 85 Streets, tops my list. Nearly every table is full, even on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm. The ambiance and service is always warm and welcoming, but it’s the food that keeps me coming back. Everything on the menu from the hummus and house made flat breads to the lamb terracotta are cooked and seasoned to perfection. The quality of food and the warmth of the wait staff gives you the sense of being with family. And as it is so inviting, it is one of my favorite places to invite friends.

‘My Favorite Room’ takes a look at our favorite peoples’ most cherished places and spaces. Featuring a mixture of hotspots and hidden gems, we hope to remind just how special one room can really be.
Moving to a bigger space always affords us the option to have more rooms to love. With his new-found ability to move as he pleases, it should come as no surprise that Todd Lewin‘s favorite room is always on the go.
What is your favorite room? My car.
Why is it your favorite room? After 8 years of living in SoHo, I moved to Williamsburg and immediately got a car. I didn’t think I’d end up spending so much time in the car, but being able to drive to the grocery store, pick up coffee or even a friend is something that I enjoy a lot. I feel like I’m in the suburbs which brings me some comfort. I also love driving around and making or taking calls on my Bluetooth. It’s become my mobile office.
What do you like to do most in this room? I’m a better listener on speakerphone so I try and schedule calls with clients when I know I’ll be in my car.
What is one unique or distinctive feature from this room? It’s constantly moving.
In one word, how would you describe this room? Game-changing.
