Best Apartment I Ever Sold: Adie Kriegstein

Best Apartment I Ever Sold invites our agents to share the unique story of their best selling experience to date. This week, learn why Adie Kriegstein‘s sale at 17 Minetta Street is her best one yet.

It’s not easy to pick the “best apartment I ever sold” as each apartment I’ve sold truly holds a special place in my heart and has its own unique story as to why it’s also a candidate.  I pride myself more than anything on amazing customer service and looking beyond the paycheck to the relationship I have formed with my clients.  When my clients enjoy working with me, it ends up being not just one transaction but many. I often am introduced to their family and friends too, so I have many clients with whom I have sold everyone in their family homes. With that said, if I had to pick one particular listing as the “best apartment I ever sold” it would be the townhouse at 17 Minetta Street.

To be honest, I wasn’t even aware there was a Minetta Lane in the city but low and behold, like many hidden gems in the city, it’s something I had walked by more times than I could count.  It’s a charming meandering lane right at the edge of Greenwich Village and the cusp of the West Village. In fact, some walking tours stroll down the lane.

When I received the listing, the sellers, who were referred to me by another client, put their entire trust into me, to get the home ready to sell. They had bought the townhouse a year prior and knew they would lose money, so there was already an emotional component to this transaction for them. The sellers moved out and I brought in a team of painters to repaint the interior entirely white and a top stager to furnish the entire house including the roof as well as a team of landscapers to revamp the garden and roof deck terrace.

There was a lot of interest in this townhouse and eventually it went for highest and best to a direct buyer.  A family came in and I immediately hit it off with the wife, an artist. We ended up talking for 45 minutes without realizing so much time had passed – it’s safe to say we are kindred spirits. I’ve since attended one of her shows.  As such, once they were in contract on 17 Minetta Street, they enrolled me to help sell their stunning corner loft at 54 Bleecker Street.

Truly nothing pleases me more than making long-lasting relationships with my clients and often deep friendships.  Putting so much trust in another person’s hands isn’t easy and I see that as the largest compliment and my proudest achievement.  Since then the wife has introduced me to her neighbors who are selling their home – it goes to show you never know who you’ll meet out there!

  1. Who is the living person you most admire? My grandmother who survived the Holocaust with her three sisters and cousin.
  2. Who is the most interesting New Yorker you know? My sister Sami Kriegstein for numerous reasons but most recently she spearheaded National Pants Suit Day which occurred in 7 cities across the U.S. including here in New York City. People gathered in pantsuits to show their support for Hillary Clinton and marched across the Brooklyn Bridge. She is the most talented, creative, fun and beautiful person I know and just emits this stunning aura of energy that people gravitate towards.
  3. What is your earliest New York memory? Going to The Evolution Store in Soho.
  4. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Believe in yourself and your abilities. You can achieve anything if you do.
  5. What do you consider your greatest achievement so far? Being able to call once newly introduced clients close friends and having had them not only continue to use me for their real estate needs and refer me to their other friends and family members, but to honestly and truly call them friends. It’s rare to have this occur so often in real estate and I think that directly reflects my professionalism and how I run my business.
  6. What are your three most treasured possessions? My yellow lab, Makonikey “Mak,” Ceci, a 16 foot, 60% complete Mosasaur I found, and my apartment.
  7. Name a movie, book or work of art that changed your life. The Survivor in Us All, written by my great aunt and grandmother’s sister, about their Holocaust survival story.
  8. What’s your greatest extravagance? Flywheel classes.
  9. What’s your secret talent? I’m an amateur paleontologist.
  10. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “This and that, and that.”

My Favorite Room: Adie Kriegstein

16 July, 2015 posted by: CORE

Chelsea 047

‘My Favorite Room’ takes a look at our favorite people’s most cherished places and spaces. Featuring a mixture of hotspots and hidden gems, we hope to remind just how special one room can really be.

Hailing from the suburbs of Massachusetts, it’s no surprise that Adie Kriegstein has a strong love of the great outdoors. With her loving dog often in tow, it only makes sense that her favorite room would be a dog-friendly haven atop this concrete jungle.

What is your favorite room? The roof deck at my building, the Chelsea Stratus.

Why is it your favorite room? The view is always stunning and never ceases to amaze me.

What do you like to do most in this room? I utilize the roof mostly to relax or entertain. When the weather is nice I often come up even for an hour or so and read during the week if my schedule permits. I love to let my Yellow Lab Mak roam freely on the Dog Run on the northern section of the roof. I also love to host BBQ parties with friends which is always a huge success – and they continue to ask me when the next one will be!

What is one unique or distinctive feature from this room? Being in the real estate business I get to see my fair share of building amenities throughout the city, but this is one of only a few buildings that has facilities for one’s dog let alone on the roof (prime real estate!). For me this is a huge plus and convenience to have, and a wonderful way to further socialize with people in the building.

In one word, how would you describe this room? Astounding.
