Bio
Doug Bowen is an Executive Vice President and Associate Broker at CORE. Doug joined CORE when there were just a handful of agents and is proud to have been an integral part in the growth of this innovative and highly regarded company. A carpenter turned movie set builder, Doug bought his first townhouse property in Brownstone Brooklyn after serving as construction foreman on the film Titanic. In 1999, while general contracting a gut renovation of a 2,500-square foot loft in Nolita, a close friend suggested that he had both the interpersonal skills and technical abilities that could provide an extra dimension as a real estate broker. This clearly proved true as Doug has sold over $225 million of real estate in both Manhattan and Brooklyn.
A sought after townhouse expert, Doug owns and manages five townhouse properties. His expertise in the townhouse market has been tapped for two episodes of HGTV’s Selling New York. Doug has represented and consulted with both individual owners and with developers on numerous building projects. His new development experience includes serving as Director of Sales for 125 North 10th Street, an 86-unit condominium development in Williamsburg that achieved the highest sales prices in the area post -Lehman and is a premier address today. Additionally, Doug consulted, start to finish, on the design of 144 North 8th; a “tower and platform” condominium building that sold out within 3 months and set a new bar in Williamsburg with a blended average of nearly $1,000 per square foot. Doug is currently consulting on three large-scale new development projects in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn.
In addition to his new development expertise, Doug enjoys a steady stream of resale business which includes co-ops, condominiums, townhouses and multi-family investment sales. Doug recognized the enormous opportunity in the growing Brooklyn townhouse market a decade ago and now continues to work on both sides of the river in the niche townhouse market sector.
Prior to his career in real estate, Doug worked as a master carpenter turned movie set builder where he worked on approximately 50 feature films. He has also general contracted dozens of projects in Manhattan and Brooklyn and still advises and consults on a variety of construction projects today.
Doug’s intense work ethic, problem solving acumen and negotiating expertise, coupled with his fundamental understanding of real estate comes from years of collaboration, which he believes to be the key to every successful transaction. Doug is also a New York Residential Specialist, a REBNY "Board Certified" designation awarded to top New York City brokers who have successfully completed a special course which provides additional education in real estate brokerage, law, ethics, marketing, and finance.
Doug lives in a townhouse in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. He is currently gut renovating another house, also in Brooklyn. He is a board member of the BID (Business Improvement District) for the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership and a member of both The Society for Clinton Hill and The Fort Greene Association. Doug was part of the creation of Brooklyn’s most recent Landmarked District, Wallabout, near the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and sits on REBNY’s Brooklyn Committee.
